Music Ministry
We have a strong tradition of music ministry at First Presbyterian Church. On any given Sunday, you are likely to hear Bach followed by children singing simple melodies. We share in modern compositions and enjoy the enduring hymns of our Reformed tradition. In true Presbyterian fashion, we use our music to glorify God, to voice our prayers, and to stir our souls.
The ministry of music provides opportunities for worship, service, and education while conveying the word of God to others through music. Participants experience the joy of fellowship and the satisfaction of knowing they offer a meaningful service to God and his church. Whether you consider yourself a musical novice or a seasoned performer, you can express and develop your talents here while serving God through the ministry of music. Here is an outline of our music ministry at First Presbyterian Church.
Choral Music
We give singers of every age the bonus of music education added to the joy of singing in praise of God. If you want to participate, contact Music Director Janice Chandler through the Church Office, at (704) 694-3818.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir leads the music worship each Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service. It rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:00, with occasional extra rehearsals as needed. In addition to the regular Sunday morning service, the choir occasionally sings special music programs, such as Christmas or Easter cantatas.
Cherub Choir
The Cherub Choir meets on Sunday mornings at 9:45, as an integral part of the Church School curriculum. In addition to its occasional participation in the Sunday morning service, the Cherub Choir sometimes sings special music programs, such as at Christmas. The Cherub Choir seeks to involve all of our children in this important aspect of Christian education, and it includes opportunities for both singers and non-singers.
Instrumental Music
At First Presbyterian everyone from kindergarteners to retirees has an opportunity to learn about worship through music. If you want to participate, contact Music Director Janice Chandler through the Church Office, at (704) 694-3818.
Handbell Choir
This bell choir is open to all teens and adults interested in being a part of a bell choir. No experience is necessary. It is helpful to know how to read music, but not required if you are willing to learn. Beginning and intermediate ringers work together to learn and improve ringing skills and to enjoy making music together. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 6:00.
