Pastoral Care
In times of illness, after the birth of a new baby, when we are searching for spiritual direction, in times of grief, when family strife or occupational woes come upon us – these are moments when we need our church family the most. We at First Presbyterian Church want to provide comfort and support not only to the members of our congregation, but also to our neighbors.
Below is a listing of some of the ways we seek to carry out this important mission of our congregation. We do not want any situation known to the congregation to be neglected. If you are aware of someone in need of yard work, house work, childcare, meal preparation, or just a friendly visit, we want to be of assistance.
Visitation Teams - First Presbyterian has visitation teams that stay in touch with the homebound, the ill, and the grieving. The teams make visits on a monthly or as-needed basis. If you or someone you know would appreciate a visit, please contact the Church Office at (704) 694-3818.
Hospital Visitation - The Rev. Stacks, the visitation teams, and other people within the congregation visit those who are hospitalized in our area’s hospitals. If you or someone you know would appreciate a hospital visit, please contact the Church Office at (704) 694-3818.
Prayer Chain - A number of our members have volunteered to be part of the First Presbyterian Church Prayer Chain – a network of people who share in prayer for those who are struggling with illness, marriage or family problems, spiritual dilemmas, loss or grief, or other stress within their lives. If you or someone you know would appreciate being remembered by the Prayer Chain, please contact the Church Office at (704) 694-3818.
Homebound Ministry - First Presbyterian Church maintains a list of those members who are homebound or otherwise unable to attend church on a regular basis. Throughout the year, our pastor, the visitation teams, and other people within the congregation visit, send cards, and deliver gifts to these absent friends. Please help us keep this list up-to-date by notifying the Church Office, at (704) 694-3818 of any changes of address or of any persons who need to be added.
Homebound Communion - On the first Sunday of each month, our elders go out in teams to take the Lord's Supper to our homebound members and friends. They take with them portions of the bread and drink from the morning’s Worship Service. At each residence, the elders conduct a brief service of scripture and prayer and serve the bread and the cup. As stated in the Directory for Worship section of our Book of Order, this is “a direct extension of the serving of the gathered congregation” – a way of including people who would otherwise be excluded from this important means of participating in Christ as part of this worshiping community.
If you know someone you believe would like to receive the Lord's Supper at his or her residence -- whether a private home, a nursing home, or a retirement center -- please notify the Church Office at (704) 694-3818
If you are an ordained elder and would like to assist, please let us know that, as well.
Nursing Home Worship - The Rev. Stacks periodically conducts worship services at nursing homes and retirement centers. If you know of a nursing home or retirement center in need of such assistance, please contact the Church Office at (704) 694-3818.
Pastoral Counseling - The Rev. Stacks is available to provide pastoral counseling to individuals, couples, and families on a one-time or ongoing basis. She is dedicated to listening in depth, seeking understanding, and providing a secure framework for personal and spiritual growth. You may contact her at (704) 694-3818.
Presbyterian Samaritan Counseling Center - The Presbytery of Charlotte (of which First Presbyterian Church of Wadesboro is a part) supports Presbyterian Samaritan Counseling Center, located near South Park Mall
at 5203 Sharon Road in Charlotte with satellite offices around the region. Presbyterian Samaritan Counseling Center has a staff of state-licensed counselors who also are ministers certified as pastoral counselors. These pastoral counselors are trained in psychological theory, marriage and family theory, and a variety of counseling methods. Further, they are specifically trained to integrate body, mind, and spirit in the counseling.
The Center provides counseling and psychotherapy to adults, children and adolescents, couples, and families. In addition, it offers group therapy workshops and seminars. A fee is charged for counseling, but the Center accepts medical insurance and provides financial assistance on the basis of personal financial resources and as Center funding allows. To learn more, you may contact the Center directly, at (704) 554-9900, or contact the Rev. Stacks at (704) 694-3818 for a referral.
